21. Jan Winter NAMM 2009

Winter NAMM 2009 music fair is finally over. Usually NAMM means loads of new music product announcements and launches. This year was no expection.

Ableton Live 8

From my point of view the most interesting (and most awaited) product was new version of my choice of sequencer, Ableton Live. The upcoming version, Live 8 has loads of features I have been waiting for. I skipped the version 7, as I though it didn’t fill my requirements, and simply wasn’t worth the upgrade from my current version 6.

Check the videos and new features from Ableton website. We still have to wait for the software to be released to the market for couple of months, but I’m sure the wait is worth all the anticipation.

Other new interesting products

The only hardware synth I could buy, Virus TI has a new successor. Access Virus TI2 gives users even more power and improved operating system.

Manufacturers of power synth Omnisphere and drum module Stylus Rmx, Spectrasonics launched new version of their bass module Trilogy. Spectrasonics Trilian is based on the same STEAM engine that Omnisphere uses and is replacing Trilogy with the same pricetag 229€.

Trilogy is commonly used as THE bass synth in professional EDM tracks. I’ve heard Trilogy being praised by such producers as Super8, Miika Kuisma and Cressida.

The synth is released May 18th, so there’s plenty of time to save the money to buy the module.

Akai APC40 is prolly the best control surface to use Ableton Live. It’s said to be THE controller to the studiowork as well to the stages. The controller lacks motorized faders, but still should be the best surface to control Live.

I have thought of buying Behringer BCF-2000 to my controller in studio, but now when APC40 was announced, with fair 399 US dollar pricetag, I have to rethink the setup.
