22. Jan Ville Lope – Gratitude [Subtraxx]

I composed “Gratitude” nearly a year ago to be a sequel to Those Mellow Moments. Miika Kuisma wanted to sign Those Mellow Moments too, but decided to go with Finity at the time. When I had the first demo version of Gratitude, I immediately sent it to Miika, who again wanted to sign the tracks straight away.

The basic structure of the track was born really easily, and I reached a state of flow when producing the track. The rich stereo bassline is dominant, but is accompanied with lush pads and airy soundscape. Though the tempo is snappy 132bpm, the track is really light in mood.

I tend to name my tracks to reflect on the mood of the track or I let the track tell me it’s name (if I’m not feeling frisky and giving the track some witty name). In this case the lead “sings” the words Gratitude to me. Try to spot it yourself.

Gratitude was originally intended to be released on a EP together with a balearic progressive track Sun Will Follow You, but after the remixes were about to be ready we decided to split the release.

The original mix of Gratitude was already a part of Banshee Entertainment DJ Repertoire Vol. 1 compilation (iTunes Store link) put together by the lovely fellows at Bonzai/Banshee.

The release is now available exclusively from Beatport, and will be in all digital stores in 4 weeks time.
