20. Jan Joining Subtraxx as an A&R

After I decided to leave Finity, I was concentrating solely to my career as an producer and a DJ. At the same time I left Finity I also left behind my day job I had worked for almost 3 years in a row.

I needed the much awaited christmas break to reset my brain before starting a new job in early January. At the same time I was going to finish a healthy bundle of remixes and original tracks to be released by summer.

I was determined to concentrate solely on my artistry – before Miika Kuisma from Subtraxx fame contacted me. He asked me not only to A&R the label, but take greater responsibility of this well known and respected label.

Miika’s own sound has been going towards “more intelligent” sound, such as tech house, techno and dark progressive house, while Subtraxx is known from it’s progressive take on melodic and athmospheric trance.

I am totally honoured even to be asked to take the lead in such label.

The dream of my own label

Even when in Finity I had a dream of my own label. At the same time I saw tens and tens of labels trying to establish some kind of status in this hard industry, at the same time being stigmated into “yet another digital label”. I wanted to avoid this.

Hence picking up well known label is like a jackpot for me.

Yes, it is a great resposibility to continue the work of respected label, but I see more possibilities than threats in this.

This is how Miika wrote in his recent update:

The Subtraxx label is expanding. The new concept has three production lines; progressive trance, dark progressive house and chill-out. I’m happy to announce that Ville Lope from Finity Recordings has been hired as A&R for the progressive trance department. This is also good time to thank Banshee Worx and Marnik Braeckevelt for being such a great partner and friend.

To put short, I’m more or less taking the lead of the well known progressive trance label, while Miika concentrates on dark progressive house and chill out. Miika is still the “primus motor” of whole label and gives his stamp of approval to every release coming out from any Subtraxx label.

I’m concentrating more to the artists of the main label, keep the demo traffic minimized to Miika and keep the quality as high as possible. I and Miika share the same way of thinking when talking of running a label – the content is the king.

At this point this combination seems to work like a charm, but we are still starting up.

The Future of Subtraxx

In near future Subtraxx family joins with couple of more or less known artist from Finland and abroad. Our artists are our greatest asset and that is where I put emphasis. From now on we are concentrating on boosting the artists and helping them to top their previous personal best each time.

At the same time you can be sure that we are not forgetting Subtraxx’s artists from the back catalogue. The work continues with these fellows too.

As you can read between the lines, I’m super exited from this opportunity. I have high expectations that the upcoming year will be the best in Subtraxx’s history yet and we will raise the profile of the label even higher in near future.
